I’m now reading Watership Down by Richard Adams. The book is about anthropomorphic rabbits. They migrated from their old warren and are now looking for does (female rabbits) so that their newly established warren wouldn’t eventually die out.
The one thing that puzzled me was when the rabbits say they want to chew on pellets. I began wondering what pellets are. So i did a search on dietary habits of rabbits and found that rabbits had two kinds of poo. Hard droppings and “soft black viscous pellets” which they um.. eat.
Well.. i didn’t know rabbits eat their own poo..
Anyway..
In Chicago, several of the characters would at one point demand for their exit music before leaving the stage. The band would play his/her theme music with several other people coming out to sing his/her theme music.
There a character who is supposed to be ignored by everybody else all the time. Anyway, he too demands for his exit music, but to conform to his character, the band ignores him and the silence that succeed his demands remains unbroken.
The delivery was exquisite, and the audience realizing what the silence meant, burst into laughter.
And i was thinking, the director is quite brilliant. I think that planning for such humorous scenes requires quite abit of foresight.
Alas, it is my own lack of such foresight that i lament. I never know if and when anything i blog is going to be funny to anyone else. The only times i know that i’ve written anything funny is when the couple of readers who care enough to feedback to me, tell me that i’ve written something funny or something that they like.
In a way, this deters me from writing my manuscript. I don’t think i’m quite capable of making any humorous writing. Sure, procrastination plays a big role. But it’s not the only factor that hinders my manuscript.
Anyway, i’ll just blog here what i had in mind. The story is based on Beauty and the Beast. In some versions, the household items becomes animated and comes to life, in other versions, the staff in the beast’s household turns into household items.
My story would be using the later; people turning into animated household items.
Anyway, the story revolves around the point of view of an animated pot and an animated kettle called Mr Black. My own pun on the adage, “the pot calling the kettle black”. Anyway, given that the Beast was bad tempered, the Beast accidentally smashes an animated plate.
Fearing for their lives, the pot and kettle leaves the castle/mansion. After some adventures (possibly to visit family members), they received news that Belle was going to lift the curse and all animated household items would turn back into human beings. That is, if they were in the castle/mansion when the curse was lifted.
So pot and kettle journeys back to the castle/mansion. The ending is still undecided.
Pretty spiffy story huh? :P
